Artistic Vision and Compromise

I was writing page after page of thoughts as I tried to answer cate songbird’s question, and I realized that maybe there’s a much easier answer. Do I feel that my artistic vision is compromised by covering weddings (since practically speaking, that is a viable business)? Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

Capturing A Moment, Such BS

Before continuing with answering cate songbird’s comment to Motivational Post 2, I’m going to slightly tangent and post something I wrote a while back. I didn’t post it before because it didn’t flow with the posts I was writing at the time, but now it seems to fit. I don’t believe in “capturing moments.” The [...]

Why I Am A Photographer

This post and the next will be responses to cate songbird’s comment on my previous post. cate songbird: I think I’ve asked you this before, but why do you do photography? And do you feel that your artistic vision is compromised by covering weddings (since practically speaking, that is a viable business)? Does one not [...]

Motivational Post 2

Believe in yourself! Be true to yourself! You are special! Find your own true vision and follow it! Take those photos that you see in your head! Those photos that only you can take because you are your own unique individual with your own unique perspective!! I’ve always liked the quote from the de-motivational poster [...]

Making A Switch

I got back into film photography during the summer of 2005, and it didn’t take long for me to make the switch to digital.  Although I loved the way film photography looked (and still do), the speed that you can delivery digital files, and the lower cost of processing (I already had a decent computer [...]

Theater Shoot Virgin

A benefit of walking around with a big camera is that I get into a lot of great conversations with random strangers. Talking with strangers is always something I love. If you’re open to people, you never know who you’re going to meet, or what treasures you might learn. One such instance led to my [...]

Gusher

For those of you who don’t already know, I had the opportunity over Thanksgiving weekend to help out Tim Kang make a short film.  We shot the footage over Saturday and Sunday (11/27 and 11/28) for a total of around 16 hours.  Tim edited the footage for around 18 hours, and we were somehow done [...]

Good Old Film For The New Year

I spent the last few days working on film and polaroid packages for weddings and events.  Though I previously had some basic figures worked out, I had to hammer out all the details in order to provide second shooter pricing to Albert Cheung (I would shoot film, polaroids, and/or digital as Albert’s second shooter).  It [...]
