Artistic Vision and Compromise

I was writing page after page of thoughts as I tried to answer cate songbird’s question, and I realized that maybe there’s a much easier answer. Do I feel that my artistic vision is compromised by covering weddings (since practically speaking, that is a viable business)? Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

Good Old Film For The New Year

I spent the last few days working on film and polaroid packages for weddings and events.  Though I previously had some basic figures worked out, I had to hammer out all the details in order to provide second shooter pricing to Albert Cheung (I would shoot film, polaroids, and/or digital as Albert’s second shooter).  It [...]

Blood, Sweat and Tears

I was thinking about writing about all the planning and prep that went into the beach shoot…but honestly, it gets a bit boring. Then I was going to write about how I go to great lengths for interesting angles. But I got sick of the self-praise. So simply put…I take risks. I wasn’t always so [...]

Mike and Jem’s Wedding and Beach Shoot

I've known Mike and Jem for some time now. And I had the privilege of taking pictures at their engagement (literally at the moment when Mike proposed). So, it was with great pleasure that I photographed their wedding.

Why so much $$?

As I continue to learn and teach my fellow photographers about the photography business, it’s come to my attention that most couples getting married don’t realize where all their money goes. I think that makes total sense. I mean how would the average single person know? So why do wedding photographers charge so much? Or [...]
